Paint Me Proud freshens today

We are excited to announce the birth of FSE 7113 twin bucklings born apprx 10 AM 12-27-09.  They are 10 pound babies and look like they will be very wide.  Hard to tell for sure at only a few hours old.  These boys are sired by 2Dox CD Salute, a Collateral Damage son. Both up and nursing well.  Thankfully we had a nice warm day in the low 40's here in NY today.    Enjoy the pic.

2009 Year End

Wow, 2009 sure has flown by!  Was another typically hectic year.  09 seemed like a year without a summer, although we sure can't complain about the beautiful fall we had here in NY.  This summer was especially rainy, making it hard to get any dry hay doneSeemed like we were in a constant fight with keeping parasites under control and the goats feet needed extra TLC alsoUnfortunately, we only got out to one show this this year with the boers, which was the ESMGPA fall open show.  We had planned to get out to a few others, but life had a way of interrupting our best laid plans.   Boer babies were plentiful for us this year and have all been either retained for our herd, sold, or marketed by now.  The mommas are all bred for April and May of 2010 we we anticipate an extremely exciting kidding season.

This year we proudly added an ennobled buck to our herd, Outback Boers Bo Diddle, and a beautiful paint doe, FSE Paint Me Proud, that is bred and due at Christmas time.  You can see both of their pictures if you scroll on down through our blog. We purchased "Proud" at the Winners Circle sale in November.  Paul and another NY state breeder/buyer made a trip to Ohio to pick up the animals.  That was a bit of an adventure in itself, as it was a rapid, long, tiring trip, although always a good time spent with other "crazy goat people."  Paul and Skip left Bainbridge approx 3 AM Friday morning and didn't get back until about 3 AM Saturday morning.  The GPS will always get you to your destination, but may not always be the best route......that's a whole 'nother story......lol.  "Proud" settled in quickly, going straight to the hay bunk upon arrival to her new home.  She has been ultrasounded with twins and her due date is now near.  She is in a maternity pen and we are awaiting the arrival of her kids, sired by 2 DOX CD's Salute *Ennobled*, a Collateral Damage son .

Winter is here and farm work is at more of a minimum, although just watering tends to take more time as hoses need to be drained, water tank heaters need to be monitored, hay racks filled a couple times a day, etc.  We have had hardly any snow yet in upstate NY, but the temperatures have been bitter cold already!.  As long as winter usually seem, spring will be here before we know it, and we are at least forced to get some indoor tasks completed.

Fall Comes to an End

Another month has flown by as we reach the tail end of November; and what a beautiful November it has been.  Most of the month was an "Indian Summer" with higher than average temperatures and probably as much sunshine as we saw all summer!. Fortunately for us, we were allowed extra time to get all those last minute fall chores wrapped up before winter really sets in.  Goats are all down from the high pastures and hopefully bred for spring babies; water pipes are drained from our pond fed watering system; and shelters are set for the bitterness that winter will likely cast upon us once again. If the fuzzy coats the goats have developed already this fall are any indicator, we are in for a good ole NY winter.   Time to kick back and hopefully relax a little for the next 2-3 months and "think spring".  Be sure to keep an eye on our web site as we will be offering a couple of bred does for sale soon and perhaps a full blood buck. http://www.bomaboers.com

If all boer does settle, the does we plan to freshen in the spring of 2010 should be bred as of this week, Nov 16.  We will have several does freshening come April, not to mention several Lamancha mommas also due.  If you are interested in any doelings or bucklings please contact us between now and spring.  We hope to get a sales list completed in the near future.  We should have some outstanding kids to offer. We do not plan to hold on to bucklings unless they are reserved, so if you are interested be sure to contact us.  We do freshen our does later than many breeders, but we have found kidding out in the midst of the bitter NY winters can be extremely risky so, therefore, we tend to prefer very late March or April freshenings.  Spring is gonna be "goat crazy".
